Imperial Star Solar Grand Opening — 2 GW Facility Officially Opens in Tomball, Texas

After a decade of international OEM module manufacturing experience for Tier 1 companies, Imperial Star Solar officially opened doors in Tomball, Texas on June 27, 2024.

This grand opening marks yet another milestone in Imperial Star Solar’s domestic manufacturing ability, providing the United States energy market with an additional 2 GW of PV module capacity.

Since the very beginning solar implementation, Imperial Star Solar has witnessed companies struggle with the challenges of manufacturing and distributing solar products. While new policies like the IRA and technological innovations always cause a flurry of announcements for new facilities, the reality is that only 45% of these facilities actually come to fruition (Wood Mackenzie).

Imperial Star has steadfastly refused to be part of this statistic. In less than one year, Imperial Star has managed to secure a lease for their facility, receive and install production equipment, and officially cut the ribbon to invite US operations to begin. Imperial Star Solar has managed to do what others achieve in twice the time, largely due to strategic partnerships and 10+ years of overseas supply chain production that will now reach its full potential in the US.

Executive Vice President Keer Zhuo spoke to grand opening attendees on June 27th, proudly highlighting Imperial Star’s delivery of the commitment to opening as a US-based manufacturer and the company’s continued commitment to reliable, sustainable initiatives:

“As we cut the ribbon today, we are not only opening a new facility; this is a new chapter in the story of renewable energy. Together with our allies in this industry, we will light the way to a brighter, more sustainable future. This milestone celebration marks just the beginning of our journey. Imperial Star is dedicated to further growth and expansion in the US market, and will not be satisfied until we have made a significant footprint.”

Drawing on decades of manufacturing experience and employing over 1,500 professionals around the world, this Imperial Star Solar facility will provide an additional 350 jobs to the local Houston area and infuse the domestic market with on-shore PV production.

This monumental grand opening event saw attendance from industry professionals around the country. Event keynote speakers and special guests included:

  • Deputy District Director to US Congressman Wesley Hunt, Claudia Ornelas

  • Tomball Texas Councilman, Dane Dunigan

  • Special Project Commissioner for Texas District 3, Bert Keller

  • Matt Card, President & COO at Suniva

  • Miguel Angel Prado Balboa, CEO at EnergyRe

  • Danny Dai from CZT Energy USA

  • Nicola Sicchieri from Hanwa Group

  • Mark Farrelly from Amphenol

The event also marked a key moment to announce a partnership with GivePower, a 501c nonprofit organization committed to providing clean power and water to underserved communities globally.

Imperial Star Solar CEO Isabella Xu closed the days events with a strong message for the crowd:

“To all of our partners and clients, your trust and collaboration have been invaluable.

We are excited to continue working together to push the boundaries of what is possible in the solar industry. To our community and supporters, thank you for believing in us. We are proud to be part of this community and are committed to making a positive impact here in Texas.”
